how i fell in love with this game
  • harvest moon: a wonderful life
  • my parents weren't very fond of video games, so we only ever got outdated consoles and the first one we got was a gamecube. (i still have him). but we only got three games, and my parents told us that's all we were gonna get. however, i managed to burrow games from friends and neighbours.

the person i burrowed a wonderful life from had this deal. you had to lend them something to borrow a game in return. so i could only ever play when i had something that he was interested in.
now you might remember that the gamecube still had memory cards with limited space on them. that meant that whenever i got a new game, i had to make sure i had space on the memory card to play it. often times, i didn't.
deleting my harvest moon save game would have made sense, because i think i remember it was fairly big and i never knew if i could play it again.
but i always kept it and promised myself i'd buy the game one day (we didn't have a lot of money).

i never did get around to buying it for myself, but on my twenty-something's birthday, a very good friend of mine gifted it to me.

  • story of seasons: a wonderful life
  • fast forward to 2024: i still don't have a lot of money, but i managed to get the switch remake 50% off. as i'm writing this, I'm finishing the first year (in-game). it feels like coming home in a lot of ways, because Forget-Me-Not Valley was very important to me when i first started falling in love with video games. so far i'm having a blast with the game, but of course, there are changes that they made that i could have done without.

but at its heart it's still the same game, and what i loved about it (the simple farming mechanics, the different kinds of cows, many of the npcs, and the strong relationship building) remains the same. sure, the game has changed, but so have i. what will always be the same though, is that my dog has floppy ears and is named after my childhood dog <3

  • changes between harvest moon AWL & story of seasons AWL
  • i haven't played harvest moon in a couple of years, but i think i remember molly (then called muffy) to be more of a bitchy character (affectionally, cuz she's always been my wife)
i guess what's also funny is that i used to be "forced" to play as a guy, just like in the old pokemon games, but now i can play as a girl
